Concrete patio or deck?
Both work, and which one fits depends on your yard more than on preference. A concrete patio sits directly on grade, so it suits a level or gently sloping yard and needs essentially no maintenance beyond the occasional sweep and seal. A deck makes more sense where the ground drops away from the house or where you want the outdoor space level with an interior floor that sits well above grade.

Finish options for patios
Broom finish is the practical default, textured enough for grip when wet and easy to keep clean. Exposed aggregate reveals the stone in the mix for a more decorative surface and holds traction well. Smooth finishes look sharp but get slippery outdoors, so they're better suited to covered areas than to open patio space in this climate.
